Master Bathroom Remodel
The Beginning
Summer 2020 we made a big decision to refinance our home so we could remodel our master bathroom and add a screened in porch. It was the perfect timing as interest rates were at their lowest. The process was daunting. Not the refinance part, go figure, but finding reliable contractors. It was important we got several quotes to find the best price (the main goal for my hubby, bless his heart) and also a company that didn’t make this process more work for us than we could handle with the hustle and bustle of every day life with little ones.
Some companies showed up, but never provided quotes, some provided a quote without even looking, and some companies just stood us up. We even had one company take us to their show room and told us to pick out what we wanted. Unfortunately nothing really caught my eye and when I showed them my Pinterest inspiration board, they had nothing similar. It was a very defeating process and when they provided us their quote, I couldn’t even remember what we picked. Where were Joanna Gaines and Erin Napier’s fancy computers that knocked down walls and added beautiful details to a room!
Ok so I’m not that naive. I know life doesn’t function like HGTV (though it should, wink wink). However, there was company from day one that when we met them my husband said, ‘If price wasn’t the factor, they would be the dream’. As I saw all the other red flags, I waited patiently for my husband to get his quotes. I knew who I wanted to go with, but knowing my husband he was really hoping for the cheaper route. And to be honest, the other contractors weren’t much cheaper a they didn’t include any of our supplies (more to come on this in a future post). Also, remember how I said we called 5-6 contractors, only 2 of those companies provided us a quote and we waited for 2 months if not longer for the 3rd one. I’m pretty sure they just gave us something because they were tired of us calling and asking for it….lol. But my husband insisted on 3 quotes đ
It wasn’t a hard decision with the contractor we chose really. What is ironic though is that before we met with them, they actually were sponsoring my son’s baseball team that season and one of the player’s Dads worked at the company. When picking our contractor, what it boiled down to was the process and professionalism. There was no doubt in my mind they were the one, it just took my husband a bit of convincing and reminder that if these other contractors were already flaky, could he imagine what would happen when we had to work more closely with them. Due to the cost of lumbar we ended up holding off on our screened-in porch, but I couldn’t be more excited with the decisions and progress we have made so far with our master bathroom. More on this process to come.
